The Casual Artscast 022

Soccer, meat, and solutions, some of them final.

Where do we go next?

July 2006

The Casual Artscast shall be under construction for the next several weeks. With the return of the Funk Doc to the sunny groves of Northern California, the show as we have been producing it will have to change.

The question that remains is how this will change. We are open to ideas.

An anachronistic podcast this was. We started off in Jena on top of a hill overlooking the city where Napolean fought the famous Battle of Jena in 1806. Somehow we got sidetracked into talking about vegetarianism in Germany and why they don't consider fish to be meat. Paradoxically to both of us, a person can call himself a vegetarian here while simultaneously consuming fish in great quantities.

With the grande entrée of special guest Ms. Delecambre in the second part of the show, focus shifted to the World Cup Final between Italy and France. Unfortunately France lost, but much was ado about Zinadine Zidane's notorious head-butt of an Italian weakling. Opinions were mixed.

The two trusty steeds that brought our hosts atop the battlefield of Napolean's Battle of Jena in 1806. The city of Jena can be seen in the background.

Suspenders are making a comeback.

The last beers shared together by the Funk Doc and Old Man J face to face.

Mademoiselle Delecambre, the first and last special guest on the Casual Artscast, with an American softdrink in hand.

Timetable and Playlist:

A Tribe Called Quest - "Oh My God"

Medeski, Martin & Wood - ?, from their performance at Saratoaga, NY

A Tribe Called Quest - "Steve Bilko (Stir It Up)"

In other news, Old Man J's going to be a father in October! Although he is not going to follow the Funk Doc's advice from the show in conducting linguistic experiments on the child, Old Man J will most assuredly be raising his daughter Fiona in the spirit of the Casual Artscast. This girl, in all probability, just might have the best taste in music of any child born in Germany in the next three decades. We will keep you posted.
